n The MAX1978/MAX1979 are the smallest, safest, most accurate complete single-chip temperature controllers for Peltier thermoelectric cooler (TEC) modules. On-chip power FETs and thermal control-loop circuitry minimize external components while maintaining high efficiency. Selectable 500kHz/1MHz switching frequency and a unique ripple-cancellation scheme optimize component size and efficiency while reducing noise. Switching speeds of internal MOSFETs are optimized to reduce noise and EMI. An ultralow-drift chopper amplifier maintains ±0.001°C temperature stability. Output current, rather than voltage, is directly controlled to eliminate current surges. Individual heating and cooling current and voltage limits provide the highest level of TEC protection. The MAX1978 operates from a single supply and provides bipolar ±3A output by biasing the TEC between the outputs of two synchronous buck regulators. True bipolar operation controls temperature without “dead zones” or other nonlinearities at low load currents. The control system does not hunt when the set point is very close to the natural operating point, where only a small amount of heating or cooling is needed. An analog control signal precisely sets the TEC current. The MAX1979 provides unipolar output up to 6A. A chopper-stabilized instrumentation amplifier and a highprecision integrator amplifier are supplied to create a proportional-integral (PI) or proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller. The instrumentation amplifier can interface to an external NTC or PTC thermistor, thermocouple, or semiconductor temperature sensor. Analog outputs are provided to monitor TEC temperature and current. In addition, separate overtemperature and undertemperature outputs indicate when the TEC temperature is out of range. An on-chip voltage reference provides bias for a thermistor bridge. The MAX1978/MAX1979 are available in a low-profile 48-lead thin QFN-EP package and is specified over the -40°C to +85°C temperature range. The thermally enhanced QFN-EP package with exposed metal pad minimizes operating junction temperature. An evaluation kit is available to speed designs. General Description The MAX6375–MAX6380 are ultra-low-power circuits used for monitoring battery, power-supply, and regulated system voltages. Each detector contains a precision bandgap reference, comparator, and internally trimmed resistors that set specified trip threshold voltages. These devices provide excellent circuit reliability and low cost by eliminating external components and adjustments when monitoring nominal system voltages from 2.5V to 5V. These circuits perform a single function:  they assert an output signal whenever the VCC supply voltage falls below a preset threshold. The devices are differentiated by their output logic configurations and preset threshold voltages. The MAX6375/MAX6378 (push-pull) and MAX6377/MAX6380 (open-drain) have an active-low output (OUT is logic low when VCC is below VTH). The MAX6376/MAX6379 have an active-high push-pull output (OUT is logic high when VCC is below VTH). All parts are guaranteed to be in the correct output logic state for VCC down to 1V. The detector is designed to ignore fast transients on VCC. The MAX6375/MAX6376/ MAX6377 have voltage thresholds between 2.20V and 3.08V in approximately 100mV increments. The MAX6378/MAX6379/MAX6380 have voltage thresholds between 3.30V and 4.63V in approximately 100mV increments. The driver slew rates of the MAX481E, MAX485E, MAX490E, MAX491E, and MAX1487E are not limited, allowing them to transmit up to 2.5Mbps. These transceivers draw as little as 120µA supply current when unloaded or when fully loaded with disabled drivers (see Selector Guide). Additionally, the MAX481E, MAX483E, and MAX487E have a low-current shutdown mode in which they consume only 0.5µA. All parts operate from a single +5V supply. Drivers are short-circuit current limited, and are protected against excessive power dissipation by thermal shutdown circuitry that places their outputs into a high-impedance state. The MAX6412–MAX6420 low-power microprocessor supervisor circuits monitor system voltages from 1.6V to 5V. These devices are designed to assert a reset signal whenever the VCC supply voltage or RESET IN falls below its reset threshold or the manual reset input is asserted. The reset output remains asserted for the reset timeout period after VCC and RESET IN rise above the reset threshold and the manual reset input is deasserted. The reset timeout is externally set by a capacitor to provide more flexibility. The MAX6412/MAX6413/MAX6414 feature fixed thresholds from 1.575V to 5V in approximately 100mV increments and a manual reset input. The MAX6415/MAX6416/ MAX6417 are offered with an adjustable reset input that can monitor voltages down to 1.26V and the MAX6418/ MAX6419/MAX6420 are offered with one fixed input and one adjustable input to monitor dual-voltage systems. The MAX6412/MAX6415/MAX6418 have an activelow, push-pull reset output. The MAX6413/MAX6416/ MAX6419 have an active-high, push-pull reset output and the MAX6414/MAX6417/MAX6420 have an active-low, open-drain reset output. All of these devices are offered in a SOT23-5 package and are fully specified from -40°C to +125°C.

The MAX1674/MAX1675/MAX1676 compact, high-efficiency, step-up DC-DC converters fit in small µMAX packages. They feature a built-in synchronous rectifier, which improves efficiency and reduces size and cost by eliminating the need for an external Schottky diode. Quiescent supply current is only 16µA. The input voltage ranges from 0.7V to VOUT, where VOUT can be set from 2V to 5.5V. Start-up is guaranteed from 1.1V inputs. The MAX1674/MAX1675/ MAX1676 have a preset, pin-selectable output for 5V or 3.3V. The outputs can also be adjusted to other voltages using two external resistors. All three devices have a 0.3 N-channel MOSFET power switch. The MAX1674 has a 1A current limit. The MAX1675 has a 0.5A current limit, which permits the use of a smaller inductor. The MAX1676 comes in a 10-pin µMAX package and features an adjustable current limit and circuitry to reduce inductor ringing. The MAX13442E/MAX13444E are fault-protected RS-485 and J1708 transceivers that feature ±80V protection from signal faults on communication bus lines. The MAX13442E/MAX13444E feature a reduced slew-rate driver that minimizes EMI and reflections, allowing errorfree transmission up to 250kbps. The MAX13443E driver can transmit up to 10Mbps. The high-speed MAX13443E RS-485 transceiver features ±60V protection from signal faults on communication bus lines. These transceivers feature foldback current limit. Each device contains one differential line driver with three-state output and one differential line receiver with three-state input. The 1/4-unitload receiver input impedance allows up to 128 transceivers on a single bus. The devices operate from a 5V supply. True fail-safe inputs guarantee a logic-high receiver output when the receiver inputs are open, shorted, or connected to an idle data line. Hot-swap circuitry eliminates false transitions on the data bus during circuit initialization or connection to a live backplane. Short-circuit current-limiting and thermal-shutdown circuitry protect the driver against excessive power dissipation, and on-chip ±15kV ESD protection eliminates costly external protection devices. The MAX13442E/MAX13443E/MAX13444E are available in an 8-pin SO package and are specified over the automotive temperature range.
